Points, disqualifications and referral to MARVAD

Translation published: 15 October 2026

A referral is not always based on a known illness

Medical-fitness examinations may also follow accumulated points or a traffic history. Follow the individual summons and Licensing Authority notices.

72 valid points: disqualification and renewal

Accumulation of 72 valid points or more leads to a nine-month licensing disqualification. Renewal also requires MARVAD examinations and theory and practical tests. Completing the disqualification period alone is insufficient. The relevant figure is valid points; examine the current points statement and the authority’s notice in each case.

Checking your points status

The firm can review a current points statement and Licensing Authority notices, clarify the applicable requirements and explain options for further action. Supply an up-to-date statement and relevant notices. If you do not have a statement, ask how to obtain it. This website is not connected to the government points database.

Obtaining a points statement at Super-Pharm kiosks

Some Super-Pharm branches have Rishumat or government-service kiosks where penalty points can be checked and a detailed statement printed. According to the government website, checking points at the kiosks is free. Before visiting, check the location, offered services, opening hours and identification requirements. Not every branch has a kiosk. After obtaining a statement, you can ask the firm to review its implications.

Renewal after court-ordered disqualification

Before returning to driving, check the licence status and renewal requirements. Depending on the case and Licensing Authority instructions, repeat driving tests or MARVAD examinations may be necessary. Distinguish theory and practical tests from a medical examination. Requirements are not determined by disqualification length alone: offence type, driver status and individual notices also matter.

Reviewing the renewal requirements

The firm can examine the sentence, licence-deposit confirmation and Licensing Authority notices, explain personal requirements and help prepare for MARVAD where a referral is required. It can also review further steps after a finding of unfitness.

Locating traffic cases and disqualification documents

If you do not know where cases were heard or where the documents are, the firm can help identify courts and case numbers, request documents and assess missing material. These may include hearing records, verdicts, sentences, licence-deposit confirmations and other relevant decisions. Gather records from all relevant disqualification cases. Missing records can delay clarification of completed disqualifications, licensing procedures and medical referrals. The search scope depends on the case, authorisation and available information.

Can you be referred without a known illness?

Yes. The Ministry of Health also lists drivers with recurrent traffic offences after disqualification among those referred.

Does the licence return automatically after nine months?

No. Complete the renewal requirements and confirm validity with the Licensing Authority before driving.

Does every disqualification require MARVAD?

No such assumption should be made. Read the individual Licensing Authority notice and requirements.

Who decides on renewal?

MARVAD provides medical opinions and recommendations. The Licensing Authority makes the licensing decision.

Do all drivers undergo the same tests?

Not necessarily. Follow the examinations and individual requirements specified for your case.

What if the decision is negative?

Examine the decision and the possibility of an appeal under the applicable conditions and deadlines. The firm can review the referral, explain requirements, prepare the case and assess an appeal without guaranteeing an outcome.

Documents for an initial enquiry

Have the summons, disqualification notice, current points statement and previous decisions available. For a court disqualification, prepare the verdict, sentence and deposit confirmation, and records from other relevant cases. Mention licence type, the procedure’s stage and the date any unfitness decision was received. If records are missing, enquire about help locating them. Send only a short description through the website and arrange document transfer with the firm.
